Interagency Coordinating Council on Emergency Preparedness and Individuals with Disabilities

<< Back to Current Issue

Executive Order 13347 – What’s Been Done

When President Bush issued the Executive Order engaging the Federal Government to tackle issues regarding disability preparedness in a coordinated fashion, the members of the Interagency Coordinating Council took action. In the year since the Council was enacted, the members of the Council have contributed countless hours of work to develop cutting edge techniques and products and have equipped people with disabilities with the life saving tools they may need if faced with an emergency.

To develop these products, the Council worked diligently to think outside of the standard norm of emergency preparedness methodology. In order to most effectively meet all areas of vulnerability for people with disabilities, the members of the Council organized themselves into eight succinct subject areas. The end result — a better informed and prepared community, and impressive benchmarks set for the year ahead.
